Our Autumn concert on Saturday 19 th October, 7:30pm at Redland Hall is a bohemian extravaganza featuring music by Dvořák, Janáček and Kodály.
We’re joined by the amazing, young Brazilian cellist Marina Martins who will perform Dvořák’s cello concerto in B minor. Marina has played with the Brunel Sinfonia on several occasions and we’re really excited about performing with her again. Born in 1999 in New Zealand, she started learning the cello at the age of three. Later Marina moved to her parents’ country, Brazil and then music took her via the USA and England to Germany, where she is a student of Pieter Wispelwey at the Robert Schumann Musikhochschule in Düsseldorf. She is the winner of the 2018 Young Soloist Competition of the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra (OSESP) and recipient of the Eleazar de Carvalho Medal.
The programme also features Janáček’s Sinfonietta – a very expressive and festive work for large orchestra (including 25 brass players!), and Kodály’s Háry János Suite – orchestral highlights from the comedic Hungarian folk opera about a peasant and veteran soldier who sits in the tavern spinning incredible yarns about his heroic exploits.
