We have a great programme for our summer concert on Saturday 6th July at 7:30pm at Redland Hall in the lovely grounds of Redmaids’ High school.
We’ll be playing Ravel’s Bolero followed by Ravel’s piano concerto in G major performed by the amazing pianist Valentina Seferinova. Recognised as a child prodigy in her native Bulgaria, award-winning Valentina performed solo and with orchestras from an early age. As well as regular public performances in the UK and across Europe, Ms Seferinova has notably been invited to give private performances for the annual International Rachmaninoff Society’s AGM on three occasions. Her guest appearances as an orchestral soloist have taken her across Europe, to Russia and the Ukraine.
The piano concerto in G major is one of Ravel’s last works and brings together his love of rich orchestral sonorities, jazz, Spanish music and 18th-century elegance.
The programme also features Shostakovich’s Twelfth Symphony “The Year 1917”, written to memorialize the year the Revolution took place. The mood of the music is inspired by Shostakovich’s own memories of Lenin’s arrival and street fighting in Petrograd in October 1917 when he was a boy of eleven.
