A soloist's experience

Marina Martins

Performing Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme with Brunel Sinfonia

Last November, we had the pleasure of accompanying Marina Martins, a prize winning young cellist who started playing aged 3! She currently studies with Richard May at Wells Cathedral Specialist Music School and has performed internationally at music festivals. Here's what she had to say about playing with us:

"My experience with Brunel Sinfonia was wonderful, as I had the opportunity to perform with kind, generous and supportive musicians that are part of this orchestra because they want to sustain their love and admiration towards music.

Although each one in the orchestra had a profession of their own, their dedication is formidable and their competence as musicians is admirable. I would not have submerged in the music I was playing as much as I did had I not been playing with such passionate and enthusiastic people."

Thank you so much to Marina, who made our winter concert in the Wills Memorial Building a really special evening.

Bravo to Brunel Sinfonia and the cellist Marina Martins for the wonderful concert! Wish you all a great year of beautiful music making.

Brunel lockdown orchestra

As we're not able to rehearse or hold concerts at the moment, we decided to have a go at creating our own lockdown video!  17 members of Brunel Sinfonia were involved in recording a performance of Elgar's Nimrod from the Enigma Variations: trumpet, wind quartet and lots of strings.   We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed creating it.  Our next project is a cello arrangement of Elgar's Serenade for Strings, so watch this space...
