Special Events

The Brunel Sinfonia's increased profile has meant that it has recently been involved in a number of special events. Christmas 2005 saw the Brunel Sinfonia combine with the nationally renowned Fitzhardinge Singers to give a hugely successful candlelit performance of Handel's Messiah in the beautiful St Mary Redcliffe Church. The sell-out event is likely to be repeated in 2007 - watch this space!

On the 50th anniversary of the British composer Gerald Finzi's death, the Brunel Sinfonia teamed up with Clifton College to produce a concert of some of his greatest works. The event took place over a weekend, with the orchestra seeing the music for the first time on the Saturday morning.

After a lunch with Pimms the rehearsals continued, and the concert on Sunday evening was a great success. After receiving critical acclaim in the national press for the concert in June 2006, the orchestra was invited to perform at the closing ceremony for the Brunel 200 Celebrations. Education Work

The Brunel Sinfonia has become increasingly involved with educational work in 2006. Our players have visited local Bristol primary schools, giving young children the chance to scrape a violin or blow a bassoon. This has been hugely popular with children.

The educational programme culminated in a performance at Bristol's City Academy in association with Burges Salmon Solicitors, First Great Western and the Brunel 200 Commission. For more, click on BRUNEL 200 on the left!

Four Beats in a Bar

The Brunel Sinfonia's String Quartet can add a touch of class to your event, with a repertoire ranging from Mozart to James Blunt.  We can accompany you down the aisle, or fade into the background over a dinner.  We are used to doing such events and understand how stressful it can be to organise, so if someone points us in the right direction, we will just get on and play, leaving you to relax and enjoy! Our standard rate is £120 per hour plus a £40 booking fee.  For bookings, please contact Dave Sherwin at dave.sherwin@burges-salmon.com.
